Centrica, in collaboration with SKM Enviros and Carillion, have measured the reductions achieved by providing their minibus service for 2009 and 2010. In reporting these results transparently they have renewed their Planet Positive Certification of the service.

Centrica’s Windsor and Staines sites are both covered by a minibus service connecting these sites with local rail stations. Employees are encouraged to use public transport and the minibus service instead of driving to work in their own car. Furthermore, the minibus service takes employees to the town centres of Windsor and Slough during lunch time, and provides a shuttle between both sites.

Carbon Savings
The minibuses’ total carbon footprint in 2009 was 41.9 tCO2e and in 2010 40.1 tCO2e. However, the service generated carbon savings of only 410 tCO2e in 2009 and 1,329 tCO2e in 2010,increasing savings by over 300%.Carbon savings are calculated by comparing the estimated emissions from passengers driving to work instead of taking the train and using the minibus service.The increase in carbon savings is due to a substantial increase in passenger numbers, reflected in the decrease in carbon emissions per passenger kilometre. The Defra carbon emissions factor has also been updated and reduced.
