Established in 1975, Hambleside Danelaw manufactures products for the building industry. Our manufacturing centres are all based within the UK. We are BS EN ISO 14001 and BS EN ISO 9001 approved.
Our range includes GRP flashings, roof and cavity ventilation products, insulated rooflight assemblies and flat roofing and green roof systems. Through using recycled materials within our manufacturing processes we are able to reduce the quantity of virgin raw materials and many of our products are now listed within the WRAP guide
Our Company has achieved recognition though the Green Organisation for its work in reducing carbon footprint and waste.
In 2006, we received a Queens Award for Enterprise: Innovation for developing Insulator, our Thermally Efficient GRP rooflight assembly. This product is capable of providing a U-Value of 0.8W/m2K, compared to the Building Regulations standard of 2.2W/m2K and the insulating core assembly is manufactured from cellulose acetate, a wood based sustainable material.
For the building professional, we advise on the options available to reduce carbon emissions, save energy and maximise the service life of the products used within a building construction. We also offer CPD support to help develop the understanding of environmental issues relating to the manufacture of our products and their use.
What being Planet Positive means for our business
In 2001 our Company first introduced policies to reduce the impact our operations had upon the environment. Initially these focused on the need to reduce landfill and find ways of recycling waste materials created as a result of the manufacturing processes. Gradually these policies extended to include reduction in energy consumption, the use of green energy for our GRP production unit and targets to reduce carbon emissions for all aspects of our transport needs.
We are currently developing systems for the re use of GRP at the end of a product’s service life by introducing the recycled material back into our mainstream production.
Working in conjunction with Planet Positive, we were probably the first GRP manufacturer to be able to publish the embodied carbon weights of our products.
In addition, through careful engineering of the fibre reinforcement elements within the manufacturing process we have been able to reduce the use of resin, a fossil based product, whilst at the same permitting the production of a product with a service life expectancy well in excess of 35 years.
By working with Planet Positive we are able to assess the benefits to the environment of our work and this programme will continue.
Who we work with
Our business works with major UK and European based raw material manufacturers for the GRP and plastics Industry. Wherever practical, we favour working with those suppliers who are involved in developing raw materials which reduce their impact upon the environment and therefore help us to manufacture sustainable products.
Our customer base includes construction based organisations who work for example on behalf of well-known organisations such as Tesco, Sainsbury, B & Q, Marks and Spencer and Homebase.
These Companies are involved in working with Planet Positive in constructing buildings which meet the Planet Positive standard and in which play their part.
