The construction company has adopted Planet Positive’s International Standard.

Planet Positive has developed a comprehensive new policy with Bowmer & Kirkland, placing social responsibility at the heart of the business. This represents a firm commitment to conducting business in an ethical, sustainable way that is good for people and the planet.

The use of the leading International social responsibility standard, ISO 26000, marks Bowmer & Kirkland, one of the UK’s most successful construction firms, out as a forthright corporate leader. Planet Positive has assessed the policy and related performance informationto provide assurance of its rigour and accuracy.

Commenting on the new policy, Group Chairman John Kirkland OBE said: “As a family business, we are committed to doing business in the right way. Bowmer & Kirkland have aligned their Social Responsibility Policy according to the principles and guidelines of ISO 26000 – Guidance on Social Responsibility. This International Standard, implemented in the UK through the British Standards Institute, provides a framework covering areas such as human rights, the environment and community engagement.

BS ISO 26000:2010 is intended to encourage organisations to take a holistic approach to social responsibility. Planet Positive provided an independent assessment of the adherence of the construction firm’s policies, procedures and practices with BS ISO 26000:2010. Bowmer & Kirkland has previously had a fruitful partnership with Planet Positive through the measurement and substantial reduction of their carbon footprint by 800 tonnes (33%).
