Planet Positive Schools Programme
Introduction
The Planet Positive Schools Programme offers sustainability workshops and teaching materials to schools. It is our way of bringing sustainability to life and inspiring school children into action.
Our workshops are relevant to the curriculum, and maximum impact is achieved by relating them to annual events such as sustainability week, and engaging families too – by reaching them at school and at home.
Visits work best when they are sandwiched between two years of certification – this really brings the learning opportunity to life as pupils and teachers alike are encouraged to apply their newfound knowledge to make a difference to their school’s sustainability and carbon footprint.
We also offer training for staff volunteers from Planet Positive Certified Businesses to enable them to deliver workshops and forge stronger links between businesses and local schools. This helps the schools reach government targets.
Project benefits
Environmental:
By educating children about sustainability, we can help them make small but lasting changes to their behaviour at home and in school to make a positive impact on the planet.
Social:
Creating links between businesses and schools not only helps to fulfil government and OFSTED requirements, but demonstrates how schools operate as part of the wider community. Through educating children, we can potentially take a message about sustainability into every family household in the UK.
Economic:
meeting OFSTED requirements can win schools more funding. Businesses too can benefit from the positive PR created from good relationship with local schools.
A good investment
The Planet Positive Foundation takes 10% of all investments into the Schools Programme to cover overheads and to fund the development of new materials. We work closely with our Partner, dbda, who have over 20 years experience delivering educational materials to schools.
Quotes
“We cover the environment in the curriculum but to have an outside expert talk to the children is really beneficial in helping them understand the important issues and to remember crucial messages. The school prides itself on its efforts to be green and we hope we can improve further with the new ideas and activities provided by Planet Positive.”
Danielle Wellock, Deputy Headteacher, Dartford Bridge Primary School
“We all recognise that children are the future and to educate them and encourage caring for the planet is one of our upmost priorities. The Planet Positive Schools Programme helps us to talk to primary school children and show by making one small step together, we make one giant leap for the planet.”
Steve Malkin, CEO, Planet Positive
“The Planet Positive School visit went really, really well and I am sure the children enjoyed the day almost as much as I did.”
